Subject:    BLOB Problems With MyODBC

When I have a BLOB field in MySQL table, ODBC applications (MSQuery and 
Excel) see the data in the BLOB fields as what appears to be hexadecimal 
numbers.  When I use the same table with a varchar instead of a BLOB, 
the applications have no problem reading the data.  Is this a known 
issue?  Is there a workaround?
