1) No. The Irix version uses it's Irix posix threads.
2) mysqld starts by changeing the directory to 'data'. All paths are
   relative to this.
3) You haven't run 'mysql_install_db' as stated in INSTALL-BINARY.
   run it and retry.
4) Have you installed all patches as indicated in the INSTALL-BINARY
   or in the feedback-list?
