Indeed, there is.  You can set it but it won't affect the current
message, only messages afterwards.  Use my_hdr From: (as suggested
by someone else already).  You will probably want to also have a
unmy_hdr From: in a default send-hook.

Another thing is that $from is only the address, you still need to
set the name portion with $realname.
