I'm in relaxed mode now, and ready to get back to doing some of the things
I have a computer for (besides computer maintenance, which has its
moments). I shut down and rebooted with no problem.

The silver lining is that without this bug I would have continued to put
off having a backup system. (I do archive stuff that can't be replaced
fairly regularly). Now I have a 1T external and time machine working.

Does it help if there are more bug reports for the same bug? (Got your
later email about duplicates, but replied to the fist one).

Best.
