 Can you also try running under valgrind to see if that sheds any light on
 this
 problem?  I double checked the Berkeley DB documentation, and it does
 state
 that if DB_ENV->open() fails, it is valid to call DB_ENV->close().  I
 double
 checked this on my Linux desktop via gdb and see that the data structure
 looks
 correct.

 Also, if you can use gdb to print out *h->env prior to the h->env->open
 call,
 that would be useful to see if the data structure looks intact.
