You can use the buffy history to simulate this.  For example:

macro index L "<limit><history-up><eol><space>" "Amend previous limit"

Not particularly. Mutt just uses whatever standard-conformant regex
implementation it finds in your compiler. I'm sure you could convince
it to use any implementation you like with some preloading, or throwing
stuff into your gcc specs file, or setting LDFLAGS, or editing Makefile,
or whatever. But there's no configure option for it.

PCRE is not really very standard, if you ask me -- it's just perl-like,
which might have advantages, but doesn't make a standard. But it's a
been a rather religious topic on this list in the past, and the short
answer is just "not with the tools provided."
