Hi,

[ it would be _great_ if mailing list subscription could be fixed -
seems quite broken atm, and I also don't receive messages from
  the ML, yet :-( ]

I'm quite new to MovableType, but have some questions and wishes
nonetheless.

The questions, in no particular order:

 * Easy-to-follow/comprehensive guidelines (and code?) for installing
MT ("latest") as an external FastCGI application (I prefer nginx
   as a webserver).

I went far and wide across the Web to find a method to deploy MT as
an external FastCGI application together with nginx, encountering
things like the MT-Dispatch plugin, or the script from the nginx
   wiki (http://wiki.codemongers.com/NginxSimpleCGI) or some script
derived thereof, but couldn't really get it to fly, on a Debian
machine where Dominic's packages worked like a charm, albeit as
standard CGIs under Apache. The best I could arrive at was an
endless spinning "Upgrading..." dialogue that spew some parts
of a JavaScript file across a small box in the middle while
doing nothing to the database, and never finishing, either. But that
   was only a testing machine.

On a different machine (production, OpenBSD 4.2/i386), I was unable
to run any of these scripts, and tried to resort to running MT as
an internal FastCGI application under lighttpd (blech), but got
stuck at the "/mt-static" problem while using the dispatch.cgi
script, to be found on the web.

Now I'm almost coerced to run MT as a normal CGI application under
Apache (1.x), but fixing this is a _high_ priority for me, and
likely crucial to the deployment of the platform in the first place,
esp. as I generally have less than stellar results running FastCGI
apps under Apache, or with Apache in general.

 * Improved diagnostics - I got stuck at the wizard stumbling over
"/mt-static", but could not find out what it was actually
looking for, except that it was looking for an image in /mt-static
which was actually located in /mt-static/images (but it did find all
other stuff in /mt-static that I became aware of).

 * Clear separation between anonymous user URLs, and URLs for
authenticated users. I prefer to force the latter to require SSL,
but leave mere visitors in the open. I don't know how this could be
achieved, and/or whether it is already possible, but then, I didn't
yet get far enough to find out.

 * (Maybe) Having a MT "server" in the same way like eg. an Interchange
server, to run multiple blogs off that server (would complement
the first item). See above for disclaimers.

 * "Compatibility" with standard, OS supplied, modules, if possible
   (and/or a description why it isn't).

 * A test suite (?)/ "use strict" etc. everywhere.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,
--Toni++
