With this feedback from Rudy  I looked in the binary_dist 4.0.20 for 
the libmysqlclient.so
file but could not find it. So I also downloaded the mysql sources, 
built it and then
copied over the libmysqlclient.so file to the /usr/local/lib directory. 
Now everything
ran fine.
