That sounds exactly what we are looking for.  I appreciate the info.  I
like the fact that it will be a real-time product as you describe.  I
have a book, Programming Microsoft DirectShow for digital video and
television... not exactly what I need.

I have been looking to get involved with the Format sdk and diretshow
for a while.  Do recommended any resources (books, etc) to get started
on such a project?

I meant to take the audio input into a DS program, split it into n mono
channels and encode with the ASF Writer filter rather than post
processing a
file with DS.

ASIO would see the device as 1 10 channel device.  This would make
life even more difficult in your case.

Iain's suggestion of a custom DirectShow audio splitter would do the
trick here.  Still it means decompression and recompression of the
audio, but I imagine that it should run at least 5-10x speed.
