I have seen (or had reported) similar problems on V7 8 and 9 (all with
V7 encoding).
In generally, the problem seems to be sticky to a machine. On a given
machine (with no obvious correlation to OS) a problem may happen
consistently (Like NEVER see any video) or intermittently. I would echo
the 1% though it could be a factor of 5 either way.
This kind of problem has been mentioned - mainly in passing many times
on the list, but no-one seems to have an explanation. Personally, I
think there are several problems affecting the encoding and the players
- which are probably hardware related.
What are the lists experience on this? Is WMP9 better? Do MS have any
explanations?

I have seen this problem. It seems to happen w/ videos encoded using
the v7 encoder using v7 or v8 codecs played in the v9 player.
It happens to about 1% of the videos we process. In each case,
re-encoding has made the problem go away away for me.
But this has been a major pain in by butt for a while. Statistically, I
know I am publishing 5-10 of these pieces a day, but I have no way of
finding out which ones unless somebody specifically brings it to my
attention.

Guess my brain isnt working yet.
Has anyone had a problem playing video encoded with the v. 7 codec on
windows media player v 9? I get the sound but no video.
