I have never heard of bitmaps in a SC context.
Could it be referring to bitfieds?

Hi everyone,

Apologies for a newbie (slightly off topic) question although I'm trying
to
work out what a BitMap is in smartcard terms. I know it's a compression
mechanism but don't fully understand how it works and can't find any
information explaining it. Whenever I type bitmap into a search engine I
get
image references spat back!

Any help with this would be great.
