Be very careful with the installation of scbase.exe on a W2K machine. The
base components are already part of the system and uninstalling them can
damage W2k and require some serious clean-up. We ran into this problem
recently and ended up in writing our own intelligent installer.

Check out www.cardwerk.com
This site contains a free smart card probing tool that checks over the
Internet whether the smart card base components are installed correctly.
You ca actually check the whole PC/SC communication channel. The tool
remotely reads the ATR and lets you enter data about the card you are
using. When you come back later, the site remembers your card.
