Has anyone used the UDT/LSet approach with variable length arrays?

Sherry,

This is discussed in detail in
"Professional Visual Basic 6 Distributed Objects"
by Rocky Lhotka, WROX.

Chapter 4, Passing Object State Across the Network,
is devoted to the subject. HTH

Hello all,

We are creating an MTS component (residing on a Remote Server) in VB that
will be parsing information and then passing it to an Application Server
that will then create classes and collections (also in VB) to be exposed to
a web app. We are researching the best way to pass that information from the
Remote Server to the App Server with as little network traffic as possible.
We are concerned about performance in terms of serialization/deserialization
and the format or container that the data is stored in. The mechanism that
we want to use to distribute our objects must be as efficient as possible.
We know there are some common ways to serialize an object and pass it across
a network, such as UDT/LSet, Propertybag, Directly passing UDT as
parameters, Disconnected ADO Recordset, Variant arrays. Which of them is the
most efficient? Has anyone done this with VB before? Can you give us some
advice on this issue? Any help will be great appreciated.

Best regards,
Sherry Key
