That's correct.  IE5 is required.  Sorry if I didn't state that, I was thing of Win98 \
SE.  For the most system wide crypto compatibility, IE5 should be required.

The function itself is supported on Windows 98, but I think Jonas
cannot use it for his purpose. To extract the certificate,
he needs WINTRUST_ACTION_GENERIC_CHAIN_VERIFY WinTrust provider
which is the only one that provides callback to the caller
with the certificate chain. And I think this provider
comes with IE5 (i.e. Win98 SE). I was solving the same problem
like Jonas and if I remember it correctly this disallowed
us to use WinVerifyTrust() on plain old Windows 98.
