Mencoder is capable (see the documentation!), of reencoding mpeg2 videos. However, \
dvdshrink does something different entirely; instead of decoding and then encoding \
the video, it takes the mpeg2 stream and recompresses only certain parts of it. \
Mencoder is unable to (and presumably will never be able to) do this. Fortunately, \
there are now a couple of linux programs that can perform this operation, such as \
lverequant from the lve project ( http://lvempeg.sourceforge.net/ ). However, you \
won't be able to keep the layout of the dvd, and the quality is probably worse than \
with dvdshrink, so you might be best of trying to use Wine or finding a Windows \
computer at the moment.
