Looks to me like you're trying to follow the instructions in chapter 12
of the printed O'Reilly book "Creating Applications with Mozilla".
Those instructions are flawed.   Much (most?) of that chapter has been
rewritten.  Please see the new version at
http://books.mozdev.org/html/mozilla-chp-12-sect-6.html

If you have more questions, I suggest you ask them in the newsgroups
and/or mailing lists for the mozdev organization (the authors of that book).
