Well, I can answer this:
We're using RDF as our view, not our model, to use MVC terms. So no, mork is
not a datasource... our mail data structures that sit on top of mdb is where
our datasource gets its information.

Currently, from the UI down, it looks like this:

Tree
RDF
Mail Datasources
Mail data structures (nsIMsgFolder, etc)
Mail Database (mdb)
Mork

Changes to the tree or other Asserts/etc that come through the RDF level go
to the mail datasource which manipulates the mail data structures, which in
turn often query and manipulate the mail database.

Changes to the mail database and mail data structures often get reflected
back up into RDF through our datasource.
