Both problems (the deletion of the two .pl files and wildcard
recognition failure) come from gmake 3.76.1: I reinstalled 3.75,
restored plain *.h, and they instantly vanished, and the two .pl files
don't get wiped out. If you want, I can email you a zip of the older
version for now. Meanwhile (not tonight) I'll try to figure out why it's
happening as well as see if 3.76.1 causes any other new breaks that are
going to have to be dealt with.
