1 - 'A Grand Destiny: The Annual Fund'
The University sends thanks to the more than 100,000 alumni,=
friends, parents, faculty and staff who made gifts to Penn State=
through the Annual Fund last year! This financial support=
enables Penn State to "think big" and achieve its important=
goals. Because of this philanthropy, Penn State continues to=
make real progress toward being the top institution in the=
nation for the integration of teaching, research and service.

3 - 'Fall Classes Start August 24'
6-17-1999 =97 Penn State's Registrar James Wager wants to be sure=
that all faculty, staff and students get to class on time --=
Fall Semester classes at all locations begin on Tuesday, Aug.=
24, a day earlier than usual.
The change in the University calendar was made last fall when=
President Spanier approved the University Faculty Senate=
recommendation to schedule a two-day fall break from classes in=
October, which this year will be Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 11 and=
12.
The change was proposed to break the three-month stretch between=
the beginning of classes in August and the Thanksgiving holiday=
in late November. Both faculty and students hope the break will=
reduce academic stress and burn-out. Penn State's academic=
calendar is among the longest in higher education.

Semester go to:
