Jason ... yeah, you know, this may actually have fixed it.  I never 
really saw the problem show up on remote sites, it was only IIS5 running 
locally.  But this seems to be suddenly working for me running localhost 
in the latest 8.31 build i just downloaded.

Unfortunately, another problem seems to have regressed -- images which 
were hidden inside some code which had display: toggled none/block, 
suddenly aren't loading again. this was an issue in ns6.0 pre the new 
image library ... now seems to have resurfaced.

well, i'm going to have to investigate that one further.
