[ This message has been cross-posted to every newsgroup in the
netscape.public.mozilla.* hierarchy. Even if your user agent only shows it
to you a limited number of times, it applies to all those newsgroups. ]

To the occupants of this newsgroup/mailing list:

A Great Renaming is planned in the next couple of weeks for the
netscape.public.mozilla.* newsgroup hierarchy, in order to remove the
confusing "netscape" from the name, provide a more sensible group
structure and trim unwanted groups.

Details of the current plan can be found at:

http://www.mozilla.org.uk/newsgroups.txt

including the fate of each group, and the reasoning behind some of the
decisions. Please refer to this to find out what is due to happen to any
groups or lists you may be subscribed to. There has also been some 
discussion in netscape.public.mozilla.general which you may wish to read.

At the same time, the mailing lists corresponding to each newsgroup will
also be renamed. However, mailing list users should be auto-subscribed to
the nearest matching mailing list in the new hierarchy, and so this should
have very little impact on them.

This message is designed to set off a second round of discussions, and
nothing will be done until everyone has had their say :-) Please comment
in netscape.public.mozilla.general.
