Subject:    how to re-install backed up mail?

I cleaned my harddisk and before doing so I backed up my netscape dire,
including mail.
In my clean configuration I reinstalled netscape 4.02 and replaced the
new mail folder by the old one, hoping that I was able to read the mail
again.
But unfortunately I can't access any old mail because "I am not allowed
to do so" probably caused by the previous user profile.
How can I access by old mail again?
Any hints?
