Its worth looking into this.

The one thing that we noticed at the PDC is that the attendance and
interest in Mono is much higher among the Windows developer crowd than
the Linux crowd.

Microsoft's ISVs know .NET very well and are looking at bringing their
code to other platforms with minimal efforts.  While the Linux (and I
suspect Java and OSX) crowds have mostly chosen a path and for them Mono
is a new platform, something new they have to learn and port software
to.

>From this perspective the PDC was an eye opener: we have been talking to
the wrong crowd (the Unix crowd) about the benefits of Mono.
