To put an end to this question, 'mon' is not a monitoring program but rather a scheduler which runs 'monitoring' type programs and sends 'alerts' based on their exit status. The answer is 'YES', you can monitor anything you want! **Provided you know how to program in any unix language/script**. The generic 'monitor' programs that come with 'mon' allow you to monitor most things and if there are limitations it is nice to know that you can either re-write that module or write your own.
