Matthias,

snmpvar.monitor currently does neither - patches to add features
are always welcome, however!

1. has been on the wish-list for a while, preferably allowing
arbitrary perl expressions.

2. however requires the monitor to store observed values, take
differentials, deal with wrapping counters in the process etc.

I think you can do both with MRTG, which can call external scripts
when a value crosses an alarm level, which you could use to send a
trap to mon.

Subject: Monitoring SNMP variables (with snmpvar.monitor?)?

Hello,

snmpvar.monitor can check individual snmp variables.

1. Is it possible to combine multiple variables into a single result?

Example:
Error rate on an interface:
      rate = ifInErrors / ifInUcastPkts

If rate is greater than 1e-6 (one bad in a million), then i want an
alarm.

2. How can i monitor the increments of a counter only instead of the
absolute value?
E.g. only getting an alarm, when the error counter increases. No alarm,
if it stays at the value it was when the last time checked.

How can i do this with snmpvar.monitor? (or some other monitor? which?)

Best Regards
