that sounds like a rather bad idea.
X does not run as root for security reasons; and X will deny non-user
access to the DISPLAY (just normal "who can access the display") rules...
so I think there is some misdesign going on here... maybe someone used a daemon
instead of, say, a kernel module to implement a driver... and got it wrong ?
