I don't meet the crash issue you mentioned. Anyway, the keyboard layout info is documented in gconf /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/general/defaultGroup and /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/layouts. I think you can manually update the value by gconf-editor.

Hi, when i try to change the keyboard layout in the settings windows, i
click add and the application always crash, i need to set US_intl, can i do
that from the command line? its urgent.
