This looks like something I saw yesterday, where the sound applet causes
a hildon-desktop crash if it can not access the sound hardware. If this
is the same bug then a work around would be to
edit /etc/hildon-desktop/statusbar.conf and comment out the line that
contains:
[/usr/share/applications/hildon-status-bar/hildon-status-bar-volume.desk
