Have you tried lowering the resoution ?
For example to 480x576. But with full audio datarate ? If that works the 
problem is the "slow" CPU.

Haven't used streamer for a long time. so I can't tell.

That load is something about the expected. I think I had a similair 
level of load when I used it on my Athlon 2,13Ghz Athlon.

No Idea. From the description you would get a MPEG2 Video. And that 
won't work with lavrec.

Many people use a a Analog -> FireWire box. Maybe the most common box is 
the  Canopus ADVC110. You would record DV using Kino: http://www.kinodv.org/
