So you did use a precompiled package that came along with he SLES10 ?

What commandline did you use, and what size do the images have ?
How many images do you want to convert ? (Means did it happen at the 
last image)

Have you tried another version like:
convert *.jpg ppm:- | ppmtoy4m | yuvplay

You will have to add some options to pptoy4m.
