some more working, one failure:
apple's gcc-3.3+ld64 fail to remove the a.out when linking fails, they
just return errorlevel 1 (but we cannot check for that, it's too unre-
liable when porting) → same crap as HP's and the Digital Mars linker,
except fucking Apple didn't even invent a ld(1) option to fix it!
