Summary: automake-1.8 and aclocal-1.8 script broken

Initial Comment:
The automake-1.8 and aclocal-1.8 script in the current
msys-automake-1.8.2 have size 0. This will cause
problems if autogen scripts check for 1.8 explicitly.
Simply copying automake and aclocal to the -1.8
versions seems to fix it, but I'm not sure this is the
correct solution.

Is this a packaging error, or did something go wrong
during unpacking the tar.gz? I'm using PowerArchiver
and never had problems with previous versions of the
packages.

It's a problem with PowerArchiver then. Unpacking with tar

Not a MinGW bug.

Although your problem may be interesting and causing you problems you wish answers \
to, it is not a problem with the MinGW runtime, w32api, GCC, binutils or msys. Your \
BUG report has therefore been deleted. If you feel that this needs further \
discussion then please post to mingw-users@lists.sf.net.

Thanks for the report and testcase.

I think I've fixed the strtold ("nan", 0) bug. Now reports
strtold(nan, 0) = 1.#QNAN

I'll look at the powl vs INF bug as soon as I can.

Thanks again.

I see the problems and have a patch that fixes them, but the
code in strtold.c is getting a more and more convoluted. I
have a much simpler implementation that doesn't use
extended precison to salvage the last two bits in the string
representation. However, many users of long double are
intersted in that last two bits, so I'll persevere with the
Cephes code for awhile.

It seems that you have a test harness for finding these
bugs. If so, would you care to share it?

Size of <.stab> section is 0x400 = 1024. 1024 / 12 =
85.33333... and thus we have an access to the memory
after allocated block.

Summary: Cannot build projects using STLPort

Initial Comment:
I tried to build a project, that utilizes STLPort with
MinGW and I always got into an endless loop with some
standard includes like "stddef.h", "stdarg.h" and
"string.h". Is there a way to use STLPort with MinGW?

A simple Google search would reveal that STLPort and MinGW
are being used together by others. Looking at the MinGW
headers I can see that it may be possible to endlessly loop
in and include of stddef.h and stdarg.h. I see that
string.h includes stddef.h. The /mingw/include/stddef.h
simply does an include_next <stddef.h>. The
/mingw/include/stddef.h and /mingw/include/stdarg.h files
are workarounds that will one day be removed. I will
discuss on the developers.

Earnie.

I forgot to mention my configuration:

Windows 2000
gcc version 3.2 (mingw special 20020817-1)
GNU ld version 2.13.90 20021005
__MINGW32_VERSION 2.4
__W32API_VERSION 2.2 (note: this define is in the
include/w32api.h and not in the include/win32.h as mentioned
on the "Reporting bugs" page on www.mingw.org)

using Dev-C++ 4.9.8.0 compiler package

Summary: msys rows and columns

Initial Comment:
1. Add a
    -geometry 120x50+250+300
entry to the
    start rxvt ...
line in the msys.bat file.

2. Startup msys with the .bat file.
3. The window has the correct size and positoin (which
is good).
4. The whole window is used for things like ls, cat, and
other non-fullscreen stuff.
5. Start vi or less.
Problem: Notice that the whole window is not used.
Now even the shell thinks the window is smaller.

Something else to look at: If the window is resized with
the mouse, the geometry information seems to get to
the sceen programs (i.e. vi and less work great and the
shell is good aftwards also). Maybe the code that runs
when the window is resized with the mouse needs to be
run on startup (just guessing).

Candidate MSYS-1.0.10-rc-4.exe has the -geometry switch
added to the start of rxvt. Thanks very much Dave.

Thanks for the hint. I will use though something more
standard like 80x25. This is indeed a good news work around.
