Yes!!!  RTFM -- the one distributed with MSYS in the form of README files.

With current releases of MSYS, you MUST NOT put your own binaries in MSYS' /bin
or /usr/bin -- these directories are reserved for specially built binaries,
which are part of MSYS itself, (they are compiled using a custom compiler
environment, and linked against msys-1.0.dll).

Your own binaries can go anywhere else -- I keep mine in /usr/local/bin, but
/mingw/bin is equally good.
