Hello Elaine,
Welcome to Mifos!

The functional specification is the best place to find this information
- there is a comprehensive table that gives descriptions of each product
attribute. The relevant pages are here
http://www.mifos.org/knowledge/functional-specs/product-definition

Subject: [Mifos-developer] Explanation of Loan Offering table

Hello

My name is Elaine Baker and I work as a systems analyst in the
University
Computing Centre in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. We are currently
evaluating
MIFOS as a possible software for use by microfinance organisations here
in
Tanzania.

Bart pointed me to
http://build.mifos.org/schema/tables/loan_offering.html
which is a list of fields and relationships of the loan offering table.

This is a key table of interest for us as it shows how flexible MIFOS
can
be - i.e. all the different types of loans and repayment schemes which
could be made available.

I was wondering if anyone can provide any descriptive documentation of
this - i.e. what each of the fields means, how it is used in the system
and how changing a value in such a field would affect the functioning of
the system and the calculation of loan repayments.

Such documentation will help us assess the flexibility and adaptability
of
MIFOS to different types of loan products.

Best wishes
Elaine Baker

Hi,

If you have specific questions about the tables, please go ahead and
pose
them to the listserv. As you'll see it's quite an open forum, a
free-for-all. The schema spy output is quite good:
http://build.mifos.org/schema/tables/loan_offering.html Are you writing
code to interface with or pull reports from the table? Or trying to
evaluate the functionality to see if it suits some purpose?

Cheers,
Bart

Hi Bart

Thanks for your reply. I am on the MIFOS functional list serve but not
on
the developer one - perhaps I will join it just now.

This list of tables is a first step but it would be great to have a
narrative description highlighting the most important tables and fields
and what they are used for, like an overview of the structure. I would
especially like to know which table(s) contain the data on the structure
of the loan products and what the different fields in these tables mean.

Best wishes

Elaine

Hi Elaine, I'm not sure if you're on the mifos-developer listserv,
there's
been some positive action about data model diagrams today, have a look
if
you get a chance!

Rephrasing Ofer:

The diagram @ http://build.mifos.org/schema/ is fairly recent and
eventually will be up-to-date, as well as automated to stay up-to-date.

The only downside of schema spy is that it doesn't format the whole
diagram to be suitable for printing, though it seems that the software
that Bart mentioned would also be very laborious to do so.

I have found this diagram useful thus far-just proceed with a bit of
caution until it's "officially" released.

Hi Brat/Dion,

Hopefully MySql workbench will help to an extent with respect to data
model reverse engineering.

Hi Bart,

It's around 17MB. I don't mind giving the datamodel diagram creation a
whirl as I'm in need of them at the moment.

Where can I share them if successful? I would presume under
....../mifos/documents.

Thanks
Dion
