Greetings!
Another week has passed, with lots of
interesting things going on in the Midgard
world. Especially, the new Demo server
is a very nice addition to the project.
Now it is much easier for new users to get
into Midgard development.

Midgard 2 status update
Jukka Zitting sent a brief update on
the development status for Midgard's
next major version.
The features currently being worked on
include database independence, better
access control, modifiable record types,
and inbuilt replication and packaging
mechanisms.
It is expected that we can release the
first beta for Midgard 2 in late December.
The status update can be found from
Midgard's mailing list archives:

Midgard Demo Site available
There is now a Midgard demo server
running in Sweden. This new service
enables people interested in Midgard
to try it out safely without having to
install it beforehand.
The service is freely available, and
anyone interested trying it out can
use the Administrator account for
creating test sites to the server. The
database on the server is cleaned up
every 12 hours to ensure better
accessibility of the service.

The Midgard Development Meeting
This is just a quick reminder that the
Midgard development meeting will be held
tomorrow over IRC. Everyone interested
in working on the Midgard code should try
to get there.
The meeting begins on Thursday at 16
GMT and will probably be held on
irc.openprojects.net #midgard. Any
changes to this plan will be announced
on the Midgard mailing list.
Jukka Zitting will post the agenda
for the meeting later on.

Red Hat i386 binaries for Midgard 1.2.5
Emile is now back from vacation, and has
made a RPM version of the latest stable
Midgard release available.
The binary RPMs are available as both
separate packages and in combination with
Apache and mod_ssl. The Source RPMs and
the spec files are also available.
There has been lots of discussion about
getting Midgard packaged to also other
platforms, and it would be nice to see
some progress in that field. Any volunteers
for working on it?

Account creation problems
There was a user permissions bug in the
Midgard 1.2.5 release. This made Midgard
server not recognize members of the
Administrator group as valid users for
creating new user accounts. User account
creation within the normal group ownership
system was not affected.
Emile has posted a patch for fixing this,
and the needed changes will also be made
to the 1.2.5 packages on Midgard's site
later on.
