Hi Tom and all others,
well, to raise the traffic just a little bit, I will give some statements
on the list I've read so far. ;)
As a student, I used MICO for my diploma thesis and had also to deal with
two other ORB implementations, since my thesis depended on having
communcation between three different languages. (Well, actually, MICO was
my first contact to CORBA...)
I didn't have the time to use all the features of MICO, but what I saw was
very impressive. Since one of the other ORBs (MICO/E) was developed on the
architecture which was originally used for MICO, I suppose it must be quite
reliable. The only thing I found was a minor bug regarding the Fixed type
which I reported in march (but I still don't know if it's MICO's bug ;) ),
and since I did not have the time, it's still on my to-do list (if there's
need for it...perhaps it's fixed by now).
Altogether, it was really nice to work with MICO, so keep up the good work!
Regarding MICO/E's future, it seems to more questionable than MICO's, since
I also followed the discussions on the SmartEiffel mailing list. It looks
like the three Eiffel compilers will differ considerably in the future,
because there are different opinions about the new Eiffel standard, so
MICO/E can't cover all compilers uniformly. (Let's hope that this won't
happen to MICO, too, since I made the experience that MICO was compilable
without much trouble on different systems and versions of gcc...)
Cheers,
Alexander
