Likewise, I'd like to see another release (of some form) as, for security 
reasons, I'm keen to have the mdb support in Kexi build against a 'system' 
copy of mdbtools.

Is it possible to use a different numbering system?

Mixing numbers and letters in a version number without separating dots totally 
confuses pkg-config (if you look in the code, the comment actually says that 
it will behave arbitrarily in this case).
