Two thoughts, Russell -

First, go to the TWiki page 
http://mandriva.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/MailingLists and search the 
archives, both newbie and expert.

Second - if you haven't already done so, go to easyurpmi.zarb.org and 
configure a set of sources - full instructions are on its page - and make 
sure that everything is up to date.
