Sicuramente funziona, ma piuttosto di modificare la keymap ti conviene
aggiungere le specifiche per l'euro:

loadkeys it.map
loadkeys euro

Non uso pił Mandrake (sono passato a Slackware), ma se non ricordo male
anche in Mandrake esiste un /usr/lib/kdb/keymaps/i386/include/euro.map
contenente solo le due righe indicate da te.
