No, hal/dbus in cooker and mdk2006 no longer updates fstab. This was a 
ugly hack. The problem is, mount/umount may not work as expected. 
Mounting should be done via hal/dbus. Gnome and KDE has some helper 
scripts to do mounting. 

Sadly I don't know the sollution for the origin problem.
