Hmm, I guess this is a problem with the installation order. Do you have latest
libdbus-1_3?

According to the D-Bus 0.94 release package and its dbus-uuidgen(1) man page, the program 
should be run sometime before any user session is attempted.

This is required for the autostart feature to work properly.

Also note that further D-Bus releases will change the location of the machine-id file 
from /etc/dbus-1 to /var/lib/dbus.
