------- Comment #17 from danny@mailmij.org  2006-08-28 14:10 -------
I do not know if it's the same as the original problem but:

as far as I can tell, this app has a bit broken error reporting. access to
/dev/cdrom is not the problem. One problem at least is that it's default
configuration misses an audiosystem:
$ diff -u kscdrc kscdrc.orig

 [GENERAL]
-AudioSystem=arts
 CDDevice=/dev/cdrom

This causes it to mention that the cdrom is not readable, but that's bullshit.
In the console you can see:
audio: unknown soundsystem ''
cdda: setup_soundsystem failed

over and over.

Also, if you do not have arts running (it's one of the first things i disable,
it has no use and often bugs) and set the default to arts, it will show the
same bogus /dev/cdrom error. If possible, it would be best to make it use oss
by default, that is most likely to work. And ofcourse fix the bogus error
handling.

very little thing, but cause troubles for users :
kscd cant play any audio cd. Because it search (it is configure by defaults
like this) with : system:/media/hdc (or hdX off course)

but the good way is :
 media:/hdc

(or hdX..)
