I am too having graphics related problems.

Sometimes when I switch to a different console (ctrl+alt+F1), then back 
to GUI (ctrl+alt+F7), my machine seems to have some issues, as all I see 
is just a black screen (the machine itself doesn't die, I can hear hard 
disk working; it's just graphics that is not there anymore).

It may be also because nvidia drivers which I use of course... I 
disabled them for some time to be sure, the problem didn't happen so far 
(or I wasn't switching the console/GUI often enough).
