your description at the very bottom gives kern numbers.
I would suggest you grab the latest off Wiki which is 2005LErc2 and if 
you have problems, make it cooker current - it's pretty darn solid 
imho.  remember to set your easy urpmi to cooker and check that the word 
""cooker"" is in each line in step 3 before executing it.   Use Azureus 
instead of "bittorrent" - it's a hell of a lot faster, and open 6969 and 
6881-6889 ports if you use a firewall.
