What about using the Windows way.
At boot, at lilo screen, display at the bootom a message saying :
Press F9 to select alternate network profile

So the user could select a lilo entry and boot ormally, or select a network 
profile and then select a lilo entry.
Of course lilo will need to be seriously patch to support this ...
Syslinux is able to do this for the CD at least.

swicthing network profile after the computer have booted may not be a good 
idea ...
