description:
On a Dell PowerEdge 750 1U server with 2 Seagate 160G SATA drives:
1) Can't install from CD with 10.0 final or with 10.1 beta 1. The problem is
identical: the boot sequence gets to "detecting USB devices" and "loading SCSI
drivers", then stops with "Error No CDROM device found".
2) I installed 10.1 beta 1 from the hard disk instead. It runs fine so far,
except that the CDROM/DVD drive is still not recognized.
The 9.2 installer does recognize the CDROM, and a running 9.2 installation sees
it as /dev/hda (but reading is very slow); the two SATA drives then show up as
/dev/hdc and /dev/hdd, but they also run extremely slowly. On the running
10.1b1 installation, the SATA drives work fine, as /dev/sda and /dev/sdb, using
libata and ata_piix. Harddrake shows no CDROM at all, though.
