Ever heard anything about CORBA ? That's a real industrial standard
which is used for a long time for mission-critical things and many
implementations exists for almost every platform imaginable. I have yet
to see something really mission-critical (e.g. a powerplant) with DCOM.
Not to mention the extremely poor security that DCOM has ... (heard
about ActiveX ?)

The key part there is "new way to exchange informations between
applications of M$ windows in 32 bits environnement." - if you get a
working MS compatible version of DCOM for Linux, somebody may start to
think about this. Otherwise it is useless effort trying to chase
proprietary closed specs with no real use for the product - if you are
building something around COM, you are targeting Windows and nothing
else. Furthermore, I have my doubts e.g. about support from the vendors
of the controlled equipment if you use non-certified COM implementation
to drive it. However, feel free to start a project trying to implement
this.

BTW, what has this to do with Mandrake Linux ?

Regards,

Jan
