Then the problem is definitely in the kernel, so I am forwarding this bug to our
kernel gurus.
The printing of the garbage seems to be triggered by the loading of the parallel
port kernel modules. You could test it by entering these commands as root:
service cups stop
service hpoj stop
rmmod lp
rmmod parport_pc
rmmod parport
modprobe parport
modprobe parport_pc
modprobe lp
service hpoj start
service cups start
Observe the system after each command, at which step do you get a garbage page?

description:
I meet exactly the same problem with HP670C as mentionned here under (seen on
cooker list), the problem is that now it happen every startup, not only during
the first install.
'I have an HP Office Jet 590 printer.Ever since I can remember (back to 8.1
days) - during the initial phases of a fresh install (probably during hardware
detection) the printerwould spit out a page of paper with three characters
"alpha"0"alpha"The "alpha" is the Greek alpha symbol which I can't reproduce
in thisposting. This used to only happen during the Mandrake install process,
but notafter the system is installed. Now I installed a fresh version of latest
Cooker - and every time I bootthe system - the printer spits out a page with
the three charaters during startup.'
