Yes, I  did an install and noticed I had to do the same for my VIA8233 card.

I had to add this to my /etc/modules.conf:
above snd-card-via8233 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-via8233
alias sound-slot-1 audio
