I'm happy to say that I fixed a ton of issues and have now switched over to
queueing on all of my Mj2 installations. As a test, I took an old Sparc 10
(dual 50MHz, the slowest machine I have around to test with), set things up
for three concurrent queue runners and fired 1000 messages at it. The load
got to 11, which I think is pretty good. Half of that was Sendmail forking
and the rest was compiling mj_enqueue, which I'm going to work on cutting
down even more. It would be pretty easy to write mj_enqueue in C but
that's not something I'm going to worry about.

Thanks to Russ for his info on c.l.perl.moderated which got me where I
needed to go on this.

It's working well on Linux and Solaris, which is all I run on these days.
Testing on other platforms is welcome.
